Books & Authors - March 2007

I'm guilty of just doing the Cliff notes, Wikipedia, you tube interviews when it comes to exposing myself to Ayn Rand.
I'm not impressed and don't want to proceed.
I'm not actually going to read something as thick as Atlas Shrugged or the Fountainhead when I have work and a life to be invloved in.
It just seems like a rationalization for selfishness.
I'm definately not picking up Ayn Rand when I'm halfway through "Kiss Me, Deadly" by Mickey Spillane.
I loved "I, the Jury". I love film noir.
These are two authors that were alive at the same time, one is definately more enjoyable. One though I have no intention of reading her seems pompous, callous, pretentious and merely a rationalization for selfishness.
What was Mickey Spillane like as a person-(every interview I've seen with him shows him to be a lot like Mike Hammer). He was one of the mot published (and thereby most influencial authors ever).
Am I right to say that he was more influential and a better human being than Ayn Rand?

Is there any details in this poem that leads you to believe it is more than a simple journey?

quality paperbacks are these days?

I much prefer hardback but the price of most are prohibitive not unless it is a autobiography or biography I am not willing to pay the asking price, so i have to put up with paperbacks or library books.

What do you think, or is it me am I being far too fussy?

Who do you think will die in the next book? If I had to guess I'd say someone we like. Maybe Ron, Hermione, Professor Dumbledor, or someone like that. I haven't read book 5 or 6 so I wouldn't know about anyone from those. Maybe it will be Harry's godfather...forgotten his name now. Well any guesses?

I have to read the red badge of courage for english and answer some review questions. one of the review questions is how did henry use the squirrel to justify his actions? the review is on chapter 4-8 and i just read that and didn't see anywhere about a squirrel.... does anybody kno the answer?

Its a childrens book about all these animals being in this kids house, like monkies in the kitchen and animals dressing up in their moms clothes and pigs being in the house, I think it won an award or an hornorable mention. There was a dog and a cat. I think the cat was named Chester, but I'm not sure. Also there was a rabbit. The rabbit might have been a vampire of some sort. This all sounds really weird to me but I think that is how the story goes. I think there was more than one book with these characters, but I'm not sure of that either.

Would JK Rowling be so corny as to do the 'Star Wars' thing? She has pinched various bits from that series and Lord of the Rings and blended them into the Potter books. It would make sense in some ways. They have the same wand, they both speak parcelmouth.............
