Theodor Seuss Geisel, created his pen name 'Dr Seuss' after he was prohibited from extra-curricular activities in University. During Prohibition Geisel threw a drinking party and wasn't allowed to remain editor-in-chief of the Dartmouth Jack-O-Lantern (the Dartmouth college humour magazine). So, to continue work on the magazine he created his pen name, Dr Seuss. Seuss is both his middle name and his mum's maiden name.
