I got the mail saying that I made the semi-finals but I feel like everytime I write a poem, I always get a response. It is always that easy to make the semi-finals or is there some sort of scam going on?

I have a 360 page with some examples on the blog, notably the latest entry- is there any way of this reaching a wider audience? Can I send it anywhere in particular? Thanks to those who have already commented!

By the way, what is the best resource for an aspiring writer? Some are saying the Writers Handbook, others the Writers and Artists Yearbook...so which one? And where can I get one from in the UK? WHat does the book actually cover (in your opinion, not what it says in the blurb!)

There's a lot here to answer, but I'd really appreciate emails regarding my blog.

Thanks a lot guys!

I do not mean neglect family duties or issues of love, but as writers a parge part of our work is to observe others (perhaps sometimes unconsciously), therefore by definition surely we are setting ourselves apart from the masses?

Surely you cannot observe the whole whilst being a part of it?

Thanks

PS, take a look at my 360 blog if you want- I am after feedback on 'The Last Stand', so please email me what you think! It'd be good to meet new friends too.

I used to be able to sit down and write short fiction and enjoy it. Now, I'm 27 and unable to do that. I don't know why, but it's like pulling teeth. I love writing and I think that it is certainly a strong point of mine, but for some reason this last year has been tough. I can't seem to make any headway. Any suggestions.

ok so my friend is writing a book about this girl who is homless and lives with her brother in an alley way. her brother makes minumum waige and is often beaten up by the nearby gang. then the girl meets a dog who changes things and the way they see things. and the dog shows them the good in life. does that sound ok, i mean i wasn't very specific, but it is what she told me.

Y'know, the Anita Blake series and Merideth Gentry series?

Is it just me, or has her writing gone down hill? Don't get me wrong, I loved the early Anita Blake stories, and her first book (Nightseer, I think it's called), but lately, her stuff is awful! Everything from book 10 (maybe) in the Anita series and all of the Gentry series is how big of a harem can the main girl have and how much sex (and what different kind of sex) can she pack in one book. Am I the only one who thinks her stuff is no longer fun to read? There's never much of a plot any more and it's boring knowing that any new guy is going to want to jump in bed with the female star, and she'll let him.

In my opinion fiction can be used to show that anti semitic feeling was prevalent up to and including the hideous Nazi regime in fiction. I wanted to know what others thought. (For example Fagin from Oliver Twist and Shylock from the Merchant of Venice).
