It is a scam. I'm sorry to tell you, but poetry.com panders to the egos of writers and then "publishes" your work in books that are not sold to anyone except those who they publish.
So, the more work they publish, the more aspiring poets they can urge to buy the book.
Sorry, man. Keep on with writing, though, and don't be in such a hurry to publish. Otherwise, you lend yourself to those sorts of manipulations.
Good luck

Poetry.com is a scam, but only if you buy things from them. All I use it for is to post my poetry online. I do this so my family can read it even if they are in another state. It also copywrites my work, which is really important, since I have been published in non-scamming books. Use it for what you will, but don't get caught in the scam of the "international library of poetry"

It’s only a scam if you give them money. Truthfully, I have had the same experience. Poetry.com is good for building your confidence, but after a couple of anthologies, it’s time to seek out real, paying poetry markets and seeing you fare.

Raven: They've made millions of $$ from people like us. They tell everyone they are excepted and if you purchase one of the books your poem will be in it. The books cost you 10 times what the book is worth. They then try to get you to go to a meeting of big shot poets. This costs you 10 times what it is worth also. Don't give them one cent. They are crooks.

Indeed it is, as has been pointed out by numerous others before me.
Very few reputable publishers request you to pay money. Some do, in the case of contests, for reading fees and to pay prize money for the winner. Other than that, if they request money, be skeptical.
To challenge yourself and further your writing career, visit pw.org and awpwriter.com for legitimate contests and magazines. Expect rejection from these places. A lot. But always keep going.

I fell for it, too. You probably won't win but they will want you to buy a book of America's greatest poets which they plan to put your poem in.
SCAM!!!!!
P.S. I didn't fall so far that I bought that book or pay for a trip to Vegas to pick up an award for my amazing poetry which didn't finish in the top 50 poems (47 of which were religious in nature.)

Well...it is a scam
I sent some good poems to that site and they said that i won and all that type of thing
sooo, afterward, i sent a little three line thing like "The man went to the store, he then bought milk, and then went home!" it was crazy
and then they invited me and some of my family members to a big convention in washington dc, for my "hard work"
lol, its just not worth it

it incredibly is a few kind of rip-off, looks like they desire to comprehend once you is in basic terms no longer living house. If it have been extremely a further kit, a slip could have been left with the help of united statesor FedEx or USPS asserting that a delivery attempt failed. the motive force does no longer in easy terms leave and have the sender deliver you a letter asserting delivery failed. notwithstanding the rip-off, it incredibly is a rip-off. So forget approximately approximately it.
