I've never been able to find a good author, and often find I enjoy reading funny womens books instead. Can anyone recommend any which they have read which aren't all about war and killings etc? I've read 'A best a man can get' and really enjoyed that

I'm writng a fanfiction, about Hogwarts. The story doesnt take place at hogwarts but it includes a student that attends. I know that Hogwarts starts on September 1st, I also know that it's based on a normal London school year, but I dont know when a normal London private school lets out for the summer? When does Hogwarts school year end?

I'm looking for these books,one is world beneath the waves where an orphan girl is thrown off a ship and gets to experience life under the ocean as the sea creatures see it.Another is "the ancient one" about a girl who goes hiking & gets stuck in native american time after walking into a huge treetrunk. Another is called cricket & the crackerbox kid about a girl & a boy fighting over a dog.The others I'm not sure of the title, one the girl goes back to her grammas time and lives her life and finds a secret painting room in her house. Another theres a few kids and they can go to different worlds that are like ours but different,in one(its a series) there's a talking set of balls that follows her & there's some creature she has to face in an abandoned train tunnel.It's a girl & her brother,he can swim w/ dolphins like hes one of them.
The last one theres a girl who always wanted to go to a rainbow mountain she can see in the distance but when she gets there she has to face a giant. thx.

My niece is 10 now and I've always told her that there was a darker and deeper version of Rapunzel. I told her years back that I'll tell her what really happened to Rapunzel and the Prince when she's old enough to know. And she insists she is. She says she's getting tired of the children's version of Rapunzel and says it's high time I told her about the deeper and darker version of the story. But I'm thinking she's still too young to know about that. Any suggestions? Anyone?

I read this book in high school and thought it was pretty funny. Each ring was a different color...blue led to an ocean world, brown led to a heavy, earth world, green to a jungle world, et cetera. The main protagonist was a girl, I believe. And she was constantly hounded by these twin teenage villains. And if you died in one of these "ring worlds," if someone dragged your body back through to the "real world," you'd be alive again. Would really love to find this book again. As you can imagine, all the different searches I've tried with the word "ring" has yielded a lot of Tolkien. Anyone read anything like this? Would love to find this book again. Had checked this out of the local library in Victorville, California, in the YA section.

Can I ask a college friend to edit my book?? Should I pay her for her work? She is one of the main characters in my book, and she is about the only person I really want to see my book before it is out on the market unless I get a real editor. I honestly do not want my parents to see it because it does have fluffy romance stuff in it.

What do you think??

Any ideas on how to get a real editor??
