I read this book in high school and thought it was pretty funny. Each ring was a different color...blue led to an ocean world, brown led to a heavy, earth world, green to a jungle world, et cetera. The main protagonist was a girl, I believe. And she was constantly hounded by these twin teenage villains. And if you died in one of these "ring worlds," if someone dragged your body back through to the "real world," you'd be alive again. Would really love to find this book again. As you can imagine, all the different searches I've tried with the word "ring" has yielded a lot of Tolkien. Anyone read anything like this? Would love to find this book again. Had checked this out of the local library in Victorville, California, in the YA section.

Idlewild by Nick Sagan sounds a lot like what you're describing. But I don't think it's the same. It wasn't published til after 2000. But if it sounds similar, maybe you'd like reading it too.

I know I'm probably wrong but this sounds like one of the Narnia books. It's a lesser known book because it was written after the narnia books. It's called The Magician's Nephew. It was written five years after The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. I'm not sure if this is the one you're looking for, after looking through the book I'm guessing it's probably not.

Sounds like something from 'Doc' Smith's Ringworld series, sort of. Try asking the Librarian at the Library of Congress' website at: loc.gov and you should get a myriad amount of answers. Good luck. And you can use this site for homework or other researches too.
