About a month ago I was reading People Magazine and I glnced through their "recommended reads"section. There was a book (which I forget the name of) that had to do with a girl who attended an Ivy League University while trying to pursue a modeling career. I am extremely interested in reading this book, yet I can't remember the title for the life of me. I think the cover was a black and white sketch of a girl in trendy clothes, with a touch of pink across the title.

Please help me! :-S
:-)

If you use the name of a band or story or movie or book or character that's already been done, but you don't take it as your own creation, do you have to get permission to use the name? Do the requirements differ depending on the type of thing you're using (a movie title versus a character name from a movie)?

I've written several short stories and want to try to get them published. I've also written a good number of poems. Is the method of publishing different for stories and poems, or the same? Should I try to get an agent first (they know a lot more about the business than I do, plus they gotta have a lot of contacts), or try publishing some of my work on my own (like using Poet's Market or Writer's Market)?

My friend and I are writing a book together, we want to promote the book before it is published, but we want to get copyrights to out book so that no one can steal our ideas...especially if we make a website and promote it from there.

My daughter is reading this book for her Lit&Comp class. She's read excerpts to me. It's my opinion that Richard Wright was an early version of James Frey in that, he can tell a good story, but it smacks of embellishment.
He wrote it in 1945, giving a 37 yrs old man's insight into what he "experienced" as a boy.
I went thru some serious stuff as a kid, but I surely don't recall them as clearly as Wright does his own.
Anybody care to weigh in on this?

Hi,
I am becoming a freelance writer. I want to specialize in design, technology, arts and culture. So, I am writing about technology issues, such as VoIP, online storage, social software, design issues, like usability or museum shows, and culture issues, such as the theater, music, etc. (I live in Manhattan, so I have easy access to hundreds of events, lectures, symposiums, etc.)

My question is, what do I put on my business card? Obviously, name, contact info (phone, email, address,) but what do I call myself? Author, writer, journalist? Do I be more specific, like "freelance design and technology journalist" or "design and technology journalism" or just plain writer, freelance writer, or author, or journalist? I am having a hard time deciding, and I feel funny calling myself any of those things, since I have not been published.

Help!

Many thanks.
