Hi,
I am becoming a freelance writer. I want to specialize in design, technology, arts and culture. So, I am writing about technology issues, such as VoIP, online storage, social software, design issues, like usability or museum shows, and culture issues, such as the theater, music, etc. (I live in Manhattan, so I have easy access to hundreds of events, lectures, symposiums, etc.)

My question is, what do I put on my business card? Obviously, name, contact info (phone, email, address,) but what do I call myself? Author, writer, journalist? Do I be more specific, like "freelance design and technology journalist" or "design and technology journalism" or just plain writer, freelance writer, or author, or journalist? I am having a hard time deciding, and I feel funny calling myself any of those things, since I have not been published.

Help!

Many thanks.

Freelance Design Journalist. Classy, to the point, and you can elaborate further and on a more personal level, when collaborating with individual clientele.

This is a tough one. Since you've not been published and don't have clips of anything you've written, I think having writer or journalist on your card would be a mistake. Can you possibly say

Writing consultant
Technology Issues
Music & Arts
Software

freelance design/ technology artist and writer.
I would leave off the word journalism because people's mind will stop and then think news writer.
Being published is nothing. It is also easy to do. Write a letter the editor of your newspaper about formatting their design to make it look better, they will put your letter in the editoral section . You are then published.

I think I would put a comma after my name and then journalist. In each bottom corner I would put design, then technology.

oops its not as easy as that, but i think you are what you do and believe in, so writting a writer or journaliste i dont think any body would go agains that, because if they doubt you your work will convince them if you trust in it, so anything you feel in your cells add it to it and you are it.
