Rewind by William Sleator!! It's the best book ever!! It's about a boy who gets hit by a car and he has a chance to go back and fix things and try to prevent his death.

You will probably get this one over and over but Harry Potter is such a great series. Also, The Giver..its a book that I read when I was young (its a book for newish readers ) and I read it again and was blown away, I don't think I really understood the issues. Secret Life of Bees I hear is a good one for that age bracket. I would go to www.amazon.com and do a search for books in that criteria too. People have top 10 lists for just about all types of books, you can look through them.

His Dark Materials series- The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and the Amber Spyglass. These books are amazing! I loved them when I was that age.

Also, A Wrinkle in Time and The Giver are great.

Oh, and A Series of Unfortunate Events is quite an addicting series.

You don't actually say what sort of reading you are into. Good books? There are always the classic novels, but some are quite heavy reading. I think I first read 'War & Peace' by Leo Tolstoy at that age and I've read it several times since.

For boys and girls, the Harry Potter books are good. For girls, I loved the Anne of Green Gables series. How To Eat Fried Worms (for both) was a favorite too. Or Five Children and IT(also for both), and The Babysitter's Club is also great for girls.
