I am presenting this essay for a structure of a comparison contrast essay review and would like to have more background on when and where it was orginally published and why it was or wasn't appropriate for the expected audience.

Books that made you cry?

I've noticed that very few novellists are capable or this, they can kill thousands of men, hundreds of women but you never see anyone killing a child or an animal.
How come?

The only proper exception I found to this is Stephen King, who doesn't have any problem killing anything in his books lol.

Make a list of the ones you have encountered.

PS: in your opinion are orphans cliché? I seem to meet them in every book I read.

You surely may have heard of the poem "On His Blindness" by John Milton.
There is a similar one called "On the Blindness of Samson" (or it is "On Samson's Blindness") written by Milton.
I looked for it in the internet but was unable to find it. Could you send it to me, if you can get hold of it?
Many Thanks.

I just finished reading this and was really intrigued by what the character sees in the pit. After escaping being disembowled by the pendulum, the walls are closing in on him so that his only escape is into the pit that he was supposed to fall into in the first place. He can see into the pit because of the light now and seems to be really terrified by whats going on in there. It seems to me that he just speaks with great horror of whats going on in the pit without ever really saying what exactly he sees. Is this what the character is doing or am I missing it.

In my opinion, Austen never wrote a less-than-brilliant book, but I definitely have my preferences and I'd like to know yours, and your reasons for them. Similarly, is there anyone else out there who loves Evelyn Waugh for the same reasons they love Austen, i.e., accurate social commentary, plus smart and funny as hell?? Anyone with a thought, please share it! Thanks.

I know it's a famous book and all, but I've never really understood it and gotten into it. I'd like to know if I'm the only one who didn't like it. If you also didn't like that book, please say why.

Has anyone read the book Angels and Demons by Dan Brown? This is the first book I have read by him and I am blown away! I loved it, and strangely it made me feel smarter... really I learned a lot from his factual and historical information. Anyway, if anyone hasn't read it yet- I highly recommend it. The cat and mouse story made me finish the book within two days... I couldn't put it down. I think I've found my favorite author...!
