Note: this is in a fantasy novel, so calling the cops immediatly isn't as good an option as here.
Moreover, the kid is a little against the calling the cops.

Is he dirty?
If he is, I would tell him to have a nice warm bath. Then, I'd ask him to come to see me in the living room when he's done.
Let's say 30 minutes passed by already. He still hadn't come out from the bathroom. So, I went to check what was wrong.
I knocked on the door, "Hey, kid... Are you okay?"
No answer.
"I'm sorry, I'm opening the door now,"
~click~
It wasn't locked.
As I opened the door, I could sense something was wrong. And it proved right when I saw something really out of ordinary in my own bathroom.
(This could be something really graphic, involving blood all over the wall; or even something real pleasant, like the boy cleaned your bathroom. I don't what fantasy you will make from this.)
How about if he is clean?
Then we would be on the dinner table. I watched him as he ate his sandwich I made him. He finished it in a flash.
"Are you full now?" I asked him.
He just nodded.
"Do you want another one?"
He shook his head.
I pat my forhead. I haven't served him any drinks yet.
"What would you like to drink? I have soda, tea, coffe, or just water?"
He just sat there.
"Okaaaay... Let's have some soda, shall we?" I got up from my seat and turned my back to the fridge.
"Here you go..." I said as I turned back to him. The boy was gone.

Sounds like a lame novel. You know why? Because in real life only one thing happens: cops called, cops come, comes take kid, kid goes home or to Child Protection Services. The end.

U said he's a young boy & here u can solve half ur problem. I will welcome him inside feed him well then, I will keep him for 3-4 days and give him hope and inspiration in the form of some good books and money. In this way i will make him ready today to stand on his way so that he can become something extra ordinary tommorow.

when u say strange: ican relate. that is the exact word every one uses to decribe me. so the only thing u can do, u wait to see what happens next. or u wait to see , hear or say. the kid will give u clues. he will have an agenda.

I would try to find out who is is....if anyone sent him or if he came by himself.......does he know me? why did he knock at my door and not my neighbor´s? Or did he knock everywhere and no one let him in...........
what I would do from there on, depends on the answers to the above......if he has no one to take care of him, no one at all....then I will take care of him and no one would be able to take him from me....... I´d make sure he goes to school and participates in activities that are good for the soul....such as group sports....etc....meanwhile, I´d try to find out what happened to his family...are they looking for him, do they care?

You turn your back on him after pampering him, and he does the completely unexpected. You carry it on from there.
