Description: old man (looks like a scholar) pointing to a page in an open book as student next to him smiles and looks at book. Next to them is a tan globe with what appears to be a lamb constellation on it. Student's hand rests on globe. Both people are in shadows with a distinct ray of light against their faces-- Caravaggio style. Old man is possibly Eratosthenes.

Or even without God in the equation, do you think it's natural selection, that we are not all born smart, beautiful and easily directed toward success. Or is there some other cosmic hand guiding us along a path of destiny? Or no destiny... all coincidence?

In 1920. on a road crossing, a rally of Congress was going to be held. When people started coming, Begum Nishatunnisa, wife of Maulana Hasrat Mohani came there leading a procession of labourers. From other side Nehru came to prevent the procession marching by pushing his hands on her shoulders. She was so much angry that immediately she slapped on his left cheek & shouted too much against Nehru's such indecent action. Some labour leaders asked her for beating Nehru but she refused. After that she left membership of congress too & later Maulana too left Congress & joind Muslim League. She was earlier a burqa clad housewife but when Maulana was jailed, she left purdah & started sitting on a shop to manage house & family. Her teenage daughter was going to school. No Congressman visited Maulana in Jail or helped by anyway. When Maulana was released, she too joined Congress & contributed a lot for freedom struggle from women side but it is ignored by most. Do Indian women know her at all ?

a long time ago, i came across this idea, that actually, the world runs due to self-esteem, or the lack of it. When one is lacking, one actively seeks out an activity, an event, a material item(s) to fulfill this longing, and so, go outside to achieve things. And so, people with lack of esteem by far had made the world it is today, be it economy, philosophy whatever it may be. Anyone care to share?

People come to this Yahoo site with questions that are obviously from their homework, and rather than even attempt them themselves, they get answers, some of which are serviceable, from all of you. You may be having fun showing off your historical knowledge, or think that you are helping some person in need, but in reality you are teaching the person who is asking that there is always a shortcut that doesn't require them to do their own work.

Then, at the college level, students hand me papers that have been plagiarized from the internet. So we end up with adults who can't spell, don't know how to think about and answer a question themselves, and have all the morality of the guys who ran Enron.

The Great Cycle of the Mayan Long Count calendar ends on the winter solstice of 2012 A.D. Following Mayan concepts of cyclic time and World Age transitions, this is as much about beginnings as endings. In fact, it was considered by the ancient Mayans to signify the creation of a new World Age. We are almost at the end of the fifth and final 5,125 year cycle!
