I enjoy his short stories more than most of his novels, but "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and "A Farewell to Arms" are quite good. To be honest, I am not a big fan of Hemingway, as he usually seemed to be trying too hard to present a hard and masculine image.

1. The Old Man and the Sea

2. A Farewell to Arms

3. For Whom the Bell Tolls

4. The Sun Also Rises

Don't forget that Ernest Hemingway was an 'experimental writer' in that he was attempting an unorthodox writing style. Hemingway strove for the 'perfect sentence' and a stylistic without using a single adjective. James Joyce was also an 'experimental writer' as he used the 'stream of consciousness' in his ULYSSES.
