BORN in Ohio = seven (already listed). You're probably including William Henry Harrison, who lived in Ohio when elected, but was born in Virginia (at a time when Ohio was not yet a state.. and technically, neither was Virginia! he was born in 1773).

Incidentally, this points out the problem with questions about where a President is "from". Is it where they were born? where they were raised? where they lived when elected to the office? Grant, for example, though born and raised in Ohio, was living in Galena Illinois when the Civil War broke out, and led a volunteer company from Illinois. Benjamin Harrison was likewise from Ohio, but moved to Indiana by the time of the Civil War and that was thereafter his political base.

In other words:

BORN in Ohio = 7
Grant, Hayes, Garfield, B.Harrison, McKinley, Taft, Harding

POLITICAL base in Ohio = 6
W.Harrison, Hayes, Garfield, McKinley, Taft, Harding
