Joyce's "Ulysses" and other works certainly changed the way literature was written in the twentieth century, and influenced many writers such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Salman Rushdie. Language affects the way people think, as George Orwell pointed out. Did the works of James Joyce have effects outside literature? If so, what are some examples?

Death is better than life

Life is not worthliving because anything does not last long and perisheth in death

It started when my mom took me to the Mother Goose story time at the library when I was just a baby. From there, my fascination with literature took off. Ask anyone who knows me; literature is my inspiration. The bookshelf in my bedroom ran out of room years ago. There are now stacks of books building up on my floor, all of which I have read and absorbed. I've always had a passion for books. Literature has always inspired me. I'm just amazed how people can grasp the concept of a character, or a setting, and develop it so fully. Every story has something to offer, s'long as it's written well, you should never walk away feeling nothing.

So I'm curious, how does literature inspire you?

As a Christian, I am told that the meaning of life is God.. to praise, worship, and uplift him, but isn't that a little conceited? I'm also told that God made us for company.. but sn't that selfish? is god really that vain?

or is it love? is that the meaning?

Today my brother quoted something to me "I think therefore I am" but really? is that all.. the meaning is to think? isn't that a waste of life? I can think for days on end and it seems as though not even an hour has passed, and sometimes one hour of thoughts take decades to precess... what is it?

Does life even have a meaning?
I'm so confused
