... obviously how would you be aware of something if it is hidden, but there are things that make me realise that there is something like this, that might also be in you. For example, there are things that I do only to realise later on that it was a mistake most confidently made. Now, why is that? Why do I do something like that at the first place? And more importantly where that urge and confidence came form? Then I, at times, am hypocritical without me knowing that I am; or when I do not see the folly of my own behaviour but others do, and when I see it myself I feel that I have been foolish indeed just imagining myself to be clever.

I'm keen to learn more about the idea of truth in memory, both psychologically and philosophically. so far i've been reading stuff about the self as a narrative (mark freeman, nicola king, marya schechtman) but i'd like some pointers on who else to check out.
my main points of interest are:

can the human memory be relied about as a source of information?
why is a lie less valid than a truth?
the translation of recalled events into language
and
why someone might unknowingly alter their own memory.

if anyone knows of any relevant or interesting literature/websites, or even if they have an ideas relating to this that i might not have considered, i'd be really grateful to hear them.

thanks :)
