I remember mood rings and bell bottom jeans. I had both. I was just a little kid but I thought I was pretty cool, like a teenager, in my new bell bottoms! Everyone wore long, straight hair and African Americans all had Afros. I really wanted an Afro, but I couldn't get my hair to do that, since I'm white and since my hair is rather thin, it was just long and stringy instead.

I also remember that everything (curtains, rugs, countertops, etc.) were all gold or lime green.

Smiley faces were the in-thing too and my mom still has a set of cups with a big, gold smiley face on the front.

I always watched Brady Bunch and Partridge Family in the first part of the '70's and Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley in the middle to last part.

Speaking of the later '70's -- a lot of people were into disco music and others had cards in their wallets declaring that they hated disco and only listened to rock-n-roll.

I remember many things about the 1970s.
Yes, the obligatory hair styles, clothing and music...
What I liked the most was Punk Rock, starting in 1978, it made me sit up and really listen, look, and think. It was the attitude, not just the music that stood out. At the time it was accepted by only a small percentage of the people, and those who condemned it often did so without listening to the music objectively. Punk Rock brought music back from the large arenas to the small clubs. I still prefer the small clubs today. What Punk Rock did was expose the complacency, close-mindedness, and conservative nature of the youth. Up until then they all thought they were being pretty cool smoking pot, driving fast cars, and listening to Styx.

I was born in 1976 but don't remember that. I do remember growing up that rock music was awesome (Boston, Bad Company, Journey, etc.). I also remember platform shoes that are now back in style.

That it was a decade of turmoil and social unrest. It was the era of Watergate, the resignation for the first time of a President of the United States, the withdrawal from Vietnam, and negative influences ruling in our schools. It was a terrible decade, the worst of the seven I have lived!!

Chow!!
