I want to take up amateur photography seriously. I live in NYC and i find inspiration around me everyday! But I have an otherwise full time job that will not allow me to take proper courses at least for the next few years...and i cant wait that long! What camera should a beginner like me invest in (the cheaper the better, nothing too fancy), and what software is a good and easy one to work with? Also are there any online tutorials on using light, photography techniques etc, that might be useful? any tips would be appreciated!! Thanks!

I'm going to my first black tie event this weekend in dc with my boyfriend. His dad and stepmom invited us, and there will be congressmen there so its really formal. However, I don't know how to dance. I'm about as graceful as a rock...
What kind of dances do people do at formal events like this? And is there anywhere online to learn them? Thanks

Hi, Im studying photography at university at the moment and I have been given my project brief which i'm having some trouble with. I need to take a set of three photos that depict 'time passing' but we cannot use cliched ideas and concepts such as a photo of a watch, clock, food being eaten(and other things that typically come to mind when you think of showing time passing by). Any ideas? We have been told to 'think outside the frame' and come up with original ideas, so dont hesitate to put any strange or different ideas down, many many many thanks, Hannah x

If you can be certain that one group has oppressed another group would you say that the record of the event given by the oppressed is more significant than that of the oppressor. Assuming they can not be given equal wieght.
I'm asking the question in general. I am specifically looking at first person accounts of american slavery.

I have a rush project where I need to do layouts for a magazine that have alot of text and images. Is it advisable to use photoshop to do these and will there be any drawback when it comes out in print? If so, what can I expect?

I really a not very seasoned with using Indesign or other programs and because I am in such a rush, I don't have the time to learn them. That is why I am trying to do it in Photoshop.

Your input/help is very much appreciated. =)

I read it when I was in the 7th grade I believe, so is been like almost 30 years for me. It is a woman that falls in love with a man that was injured and he thought he was permanently blind. The woman is a peasant (very ugly too) and he is more of the Elite class and very handsom. She practically takes him by the hand and reads to him and they walk together to a well where they pass the time. She has fallen in love with him and he was beginning to fall in love with her too. Then along came another woman who falls in love with him and him her. He finally gets to see again and he wants to see the peasant girl because she was so kind to him. When he does see her he is turned off by her and rejects her and she goes to the well where they passed the time and she kills herself. Does anybody know the author or the name of this book? I can't remember. It wasn't a big book, it was sort of thin because the story was kind of short, tragic story.

We often hear about people like Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X, during black history month. Name a few other African American people who contributed to society in a major way, whether underground or not. Name individuals who contributed to society that you dont often hear about as much in black history.

I am a huge fan of the Harry Potter books, and have loved and cherished them for years now. I've awaited each new release with what one can describe as fanatical eagerness! There is no doubt that many of you out there are the same. Personally I find the books wonderful in every way. They’re magical and trapping, even when you are re-reading for the tenth or so time. But what is the secret behind this success? Why do we love J.K Rowling's world so much? What makes the books unique and unlike all others? Surely Magic has a lot do with it, but what's your other explanation?
