i mean guys who are better off than an average mortal. and yes, I do believe that money provides a certain quality of life and makes you satisfied - generally. so my question is; why do people who have everything get to be mean. they have the time and means to enjoy themselves so why can't they just be nice

thanx

What is the underlying message of Gogol's "The Nose"? How can someone's nose become so rebellious, cause its owner so much anxiety and anguish and suddenly re-appears after being arrested! Yet the writer simply explains at the end of the tale that "these things do happen"! Is there some profound message I am missing here?

They don't have to be books that came out this year.

My fave fiction was The Ruins by Scott Smith. A lot of people hated it (check amazon), but I could not put it down. Read it in two days.

Fave non-fiction: The Perfect Thing by Stephen Levy about the iPod. Utterly fascinating. No two copies are alike as, in keeping with the spirit of iPod, the chapters have been shuffled... BUT, they each stand on their own as separate essays.
