I read the book (on my own, not an assigment) when I was in college. It is one of the very few books that I loved and cannot read again. It was almost physically painful because it was so good and the story so heartwrenching.

I have actually read it severally times for various courses that I've taken. The first time I read it I hated it, but after the second time I began to have a greater understanding of it and appreciate the ambiguity in it. I think it is a great book that can teach a lot. There is an enormous amount of criticism on it, on most of Morrison's work in fact, if you are looking for various opinions and critiques of the novel. Most local and college libraries will carry these.

I read it, and I thought it was fantastic. All of Toni Morrison's books are great. I also love Song of Solomon, Jazz, and The Bluest Eye (all Morrison).

I read it a few years ago, and overall, I liked it, but there were still some things I didn't really understand. So when the movie came out I watched it, hoping for some clarification, but it didn't really help. It's probably just me because I often have a hard time grasping things with a supernatural undertone. Too much of a realist, I guess.

to be frank, I read it halfway and then shelved it among my "unread-ables"! perhaps it was because my teacher killed my interest. He was a terrible bore. I hope to pull it out again now that everyone seems to be talking Toni and if you cannot drop the title, beloved, in any AA literature conversation, you suffer the indignity of ignorance!
