How can I find out it's value?
I know it depends on how old the sword is. It's my understanding some were passed down the generations and others are modern swords manufactured for the war.

I'm a writer looking for a little extra work. I've been surfing, but only seem to find sites that want to charge a fee. I can't justify paying $30 a month to apply for a job that only pays peanuts and w/ no guarantee that I'll get it. I can write editorials, short stories, poetry and the such.

This is driving me completely INSANE!

I'm currently working on a painting of an abbey ruin and I need to mix a colour that looks like old stone, darkish in colour where the air/pollution has darkened the stone.

Here's a pic of what I'm TRYING to paint...

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e115/witchy_woo/KirkstallAbbey.jpg

No matter what colours I mix together I can't seem to get the right shade! It's doing my head in! The painting is close to completion apart from adding this colour and some fine details/highlighting effects.

Anyone have a clue how to replicate the colour of old tarnished stone and for it to actually look like the texture of stone?

I've taught myself to paint but there is only so much I can work out on my own, any hints/tips would be greatly appreciated!

I had this book in the early 1970's but it could have been an older book. It was about children that visited a playground and rode on a horse made of metal I think (could have been wood) and then it disappeared, but a real horse appeared in the field, suggesting that the horse had come to life. It was one of those really simple stories, but so appealing to young children. It was a book short enough to read at bedtimes and would love to find it so I can read it to my daughter. I remember lovely illustrations, but unfortunately not the title or author? Any ideas or suggestions of what the book might be, pls contact. Many thanks.

Do you think that it is true that scholars have used modern sensibilities and ideas to interpret and explain some of the unknown uses and thinking behind ancient buildings.

I often read that some of the uses for the different parts of ancient Egyptian temple and pyramid complexes are not known. Zawi Hawas the director of Egyptian antiquites had said that since the remains of pyramid construction workers were found on the Giza plateau they could not have been slaves because the king would never have allowed slaves to be buried near his monument. How can anyone know this. Modern abhorrence of slavery tends to make some people think that it was always held in such high contempt. To me this a case of modern thinking used to present a case for something that is not known.

I am looking to have an on-line photo company do our Christmas/photo cards but don't want to spend the money on a bunch of cards when I have no idea what the finished result would be. Have any of you had any experience with "vistaprint," "winkflash," and the like? (Please respond only if you have personally had photo cards printed.) Thanks! : )

If you were writing a book to describe your personality or life, what title would you give it? Something that would let the reader know what to expect from the book.
