if you are a writer and you have submitted a manuscript to a publisher and it may have been in the wrong format should you resubmit it to that same publisher later after you have fixed the error even if they did not ask you to

Yes, do resubmit it if the reason your manuscript was rejected was mainly caused by the hard-to-read font type/size. The publisher should included a memo with the reason for rejecting it the first time around when they returned your manuscript.

Pick up the book 'The Complete Idiot's Guide to Getting Published' from your local library. This is a tremendous help for questions like this.

However, most publishers do not appreciate resubmissions. They have already spent time and effort on your book and it is unlikely they want to spend anymore. Remember, Editors (those that work in the publishing house, not the ones that edit your book) are paid in part by how many decent selling books they pitch each year. They may have put format because they didn't want to deal with explaining the full reason. This is common practice. In all honesty, you may want to look at an agent first. I have and it's working out great.

Also, make sure you never annoy or anger a publisher. They move from job to job quite frequently and if you irritate one, that sentiment often carries. So yes, technically you could resubmit, but would it be worth it in the long run? Probably not.

A big number of writer aren't publish after a single try. You have advantage fixing the mistakes you know you did and resubmit it and like it already been said, to multiple publisher.

It depends. If it was in a truly unreadable format, go ahead and resubmit it. If it just had the wrong margins or font, I wouldn't resubmit it unless I'd made extensive revisions. If you resubmit a manuscript for any reason, always indicate on your cover letter that it's a resubmission.
