There are hundreds (if not thousands) of published philosophers to read from.

The only problem is that philosophy is so divided amongst different schools of thought.

Egoism, Relativism, Consequentialism, Existentialism, Utlilitarianism, Aristotelean, Platonic, et cetera.......

Each school of thought has its own tenets and great minds who thought that way. I would reccomed a beginners guide to maybe find what niche you would like to explore a little.

I have read a lot of philosophy, and be forewarned. It is written by academics for academics. None that I have yet to read is an easy off-of-the-shelf read. Most of it is stuff you have to not only sink your teeth into, but, you are forced to masticate on it for a long while before you can grasp the concepts

To get you started, hee are some of the greats (a very short list):

Plato
Aristotle
John Stuart Mill
Immanuel Kant
Friedrich Neitzsche
John-Paul Sartre
Jeremy Bentham
Rene DesCartes

To get started without being shocked, I suggest you search in Amazon for some introductory philosophy books which will get you to know the basics and diverse philosophical schools.

From then on, you will be able to have some idea, in which direction you want to continue your readings.

Mortimer J. Adler wrote philosophical books for beginners that I found very helpful. Peter Kreeft or J. Budsiszewski(sp?) are good starts, too.
