Big time!!!!! The art of painting was very stuffy and stylized before photography, and the Impressionists got a great deal of inspiration from photography. Painters started adding things that were cut off at the edge of the frame and animals and people in motion. Photography also enabled painters to make much more realistic drawings of horses and other animals in motion, anything that moved too fast to be seen clearly by the naked eye. Early photographers also tried to make their portraits look like paintings with fancy sets and painted backdrops.

Photography forced painters and illustrators to move away from realism. They couldn't reproduce what a camera could. That lead to move interpretative canvases.
