Me and a great friend of mine started off being really good friends after we were introduced by some friends at the bowling alley one night. He had just gotten out of a relationship and so had I, so we were both just looking for a friend. I ended up falling hard for eachother several months later, but have decided no to get into a relationship because he thinks "That life is not all about being with somebody. Go to school, get your degree, let me get my life together, and then we'll work on a relationship." He claims that college is a time for fun and that I shouldn't be ready to be too serious right now. What are your feelings/opinions with his suggestion?

A quick look on this site (especially with what the teenage population write) show that the exclamation and question mark, used together in an obnoxious manner abusive to punctuation, is quite popular. Countless times I've seen the eyesore "?!?!!!!!?".

The revision of the interrobang would, indeed, save not only punctuation abuse, but their own time when it comes to typing. (And, given that most words longer than four letters are made into abbreviations, I have no doubt they're all for "time savers".)

So why did the poor dear never catch on? Did writers simply not use it enough because their writing lacked the needed rhetoric?

The interrobang, however, is not to be grouped in with the idiotic-looking "point d’ironie" for rhetoric speech is quite different from irony. Whereas the interrobang is fun, jazzy, and cute, the point d'ironie marks are just plain silly.

Joyce is widely known for breaking with the conventional rules on how a novel should be build up and what it should consist of, but what is it that makes this novel so extraordinary in the development of a modernistic culture during the turn of the century?
