15% of the population in North America secretly chews their toenails, so why wouldn't cavemen do the same???

Since they didn't have shoes, they didn't need to clip their toenails, they would walk on the dirt/rocks and it would naturally wear down the nail - much like wild animals.
Then again, I could see a caveman all bent over chewing on his toenails.

I'm guessing they didn't. If they weren't torn off or broken, off they might wear down from climbing. Probably not a big call for the pedicure in caveman times.

THE WAY THEY WERE HUNCH OVER THEY MIGHT HAVE CHEWED THEM OFF..ALSO THEY WALKED BARE FOOT MOST OF THE TIME SO THEY MIGHT HAVE BE RIPE OFF BY THAT..LIKE A DOGS NAILS WHEN THEY WALK ON THE ROAD OR PAVEMENT ALL THE TIME THEY WEAR THEIRS DOWN..HOWS THAT FOR A GOOD LOGICAL ANSWER..

they chipped flakes off with a larger, harder toenail usually the old yellow kind.

They had the now extinct "toenailis cliposaurus" dinosaur do that for them...you know....the same one that did Fred and Barney's.
