Well, I love a good dystopic novel, so I bought the first one and read it.
It was ok, I agree with the previous commenter that it seemed two-demensional and slightly immature. Westerfeld was definitely noticibly trying to right for the audience he intended the book for, with not-so-good results.
I was also dissapointed with the cliffhanger ending, because I dislike being roped into trilogies, without knowing that the books is a trilogy beforehand (which I did not).

I've only managed to read the first one so far. Haven't gotten the chance to buy the other two, but I doubt there's a huge change from book one to book two and three.
From the first one, I thought it was a genius and creative plot. But that's all I really liked about it; the plot. I found the characters rather two-dimensional, the writing uninspired, lacking detail and description, and similar to the writing style of elementary-grade books.
If a better writer had written Uglies, someone older and not trying to "write down" just because it's in the teenager section, I think it would have been a much more enjoyable book. I like books that use a large vocabulary, plenty of description, and not something I was able to get through in under 24 hours.

I have only read UGLIES and SPECIALS but I loved them both and can't wait to read the third novel.
I enjoyed the plot. The ideas/concepts behind the plot which motivated everything. And the characters were great too. Not everyone is three-dimensional, but comparatively speaking in relation to other YA literature, I thought the main characters were well developed.
