I was born in Miami Fl., lived there 6 months, raised for 9 years in Niagara Falls NY (moms hometown) and then moved to Charlotte NC (dads hometown). The irony is that I couldn't have been born any further south in the states if it was possible.
I will never forget how cruel some kids in school were because I had a "yankee" accent and I was Catholic, it doesn't matter now, since I am older, but it never stopped when I was living in the south. I learned to laugh about it, you have too. I feel like some people are still "fighting the civil war" with their ignorance and intolerance. 5years ago, my husband got a job offer of a lifetime in NJ, so I was more than happy to move. I don't understand it.....when we visited our parents in NC with our NJ liscense plate on our car recently,we got our car keyed and a nasty note about "Yankee go home." I don't get it,why? My husband is a true southern gentlemen, thank God, since MS has caused me so much pain and disabilities. For that I'm lucky!
