Let's agree that the expression "design" is applicable to some objects. Why does it matter that some human beings or advanced life forms have created the object? In your answer, consider that our thoughts are controlled by the laws of nature. Is it just an arbitrary convention? If the creators are viruses, can we say there is a design? If they are complex molecules?
Also, why the creator(s) must be separated from the created object? What about a structured army of ants? I personally don't mind using the term design for the entire universe, especially since we are a part of it.
Please, don't refer to chaos theory or to the notion of emergence, etc. without answering the question "Where do you draw the line?" If it is just an arbitrary convention that some separated advanced life form must have created the object, then just say it. Unless of course, you are just against any use of the term "design", even when human beings are the creators. I just want to know.
