Sorry if I sound mad but I have noticed that pretty much everyone who was famous in 1985 aged or became less popular in 1986. Is this because of change in fashion or was there something in the atmosphere that damaged peoples skin? (I know it sounds crazy but I don't think I've imagined it!)

If anyone knows about 20th century history etc, please reply,

thanks xxx

Anyone who was in the entertainment biz knows that something fundamental happened in 1986. I have discussed this occurance many times. Not sure about the cause, but a lot had to do with the Reagan administration and the implementation of the 'star wars' program. There's a lot to that change, and what was eventually to be the end of the Russian Regime (and the end of 'show biz' as we knew it).
I cannot go into detail here on Y/A, but I'll give you a couple clues: 'The Moon is a Harsh Mistress' (Robert Heinlein) and a now censored book entitled '1984' (not George Orwell)
and lastly: 'The President's Advisory Council of Science Fiction Writers'. You can take it from there...

Then again, there's the invention and rapid distribution of 'freebase' and 'crack' cocaine about that time...that stuff adds decades to a person's real age!

In my honest opinion, I would call it mass consumerism and a decline in "human nature". Life became less simple. You can't exactly pinpoint an exact year, but the population became more involved in stress inducing activities (divorce, depression (suicide), etc) and abusing substances (most drugs, for example). That and the use of substances that "improve" your health.

I have a personal theory that a finite "life force" exists - it represents the quality of life [personality, intelligence, and whole lot more.] This "life force" has been spread thin over time as the population increases.

In other words, humans are becoming - for lack of a better word - ...inferior.

A shift in the human gene pool occurs every couple of years.

That's a clever observation.

Rolling Stones, for example. Is that when the drugs finally started taking their toll?

Madonna, Little Orphan Annie to Little Lolita overnight.

John Matuszak, is that when steroids took over?

Great question!

Well Reagan had been in office since 1981. That many years of a republican president never does anyone any good.
