What do we do? Do we contact the authorities? and to answer any questions, It also came back in he&his wifes's name, and their son's. so four people in all in the same family, Doesn't the telephone company catch on? and yes I did try the telephone # but it's been disconnected. what to do???

Oh wow, how on earth did he set up those accounts without showing proper identification? What's with those phone companies? Gee...

And yes, you should contact the relevant authorities to clear up your (and your family members') names, not to mention removing yourselves from the phone companies' blacklists (if he didn't pay those bills). Also, this can't be legal as it's identity fraud.

Have a look at this: http://www.usdoj.gov/criminal/fraud/websites/idtheft.html#whatifvictim .

Phone company just goes on what they are told for the most part. So as long as you have the right information, account is setup.

If you are sure that is what is going on that his brother for the most part stole your husband's identity to setup a phone. You may want to speak to the local authorities first to see what possibly can be done. Also call the phone company use this website to find out what phone company http://www.fonefinder.net/ Ask the company what there policy is on such things.

Between these two, you should be all set.

Your husband needs to call that particular telephone company to tell them he's never had an account with them, but someone was using his name.

The customer service representative, or her supervisor might be able to give you advice on what to do

Contact the phone company and see if there is a problem in setting up a new account under your husband's name. they may use additional identifiers such as address, birthdate, social security number and so on. At one time I found five different people in my state with exactly the same name as me and it was not a problem.
