My sister has a jack russel about 13yrs and is continually losing hair, is this normal or is it because it is old.

Well, they do have a clipper vac that attaches to a clipper so when you cut the hair, it goes into the vaccum instead of all over the place (also keeps us from breathing it in) and...they just came out with a brush attachment. It hooks up to the clipper vac, and sucks the hair up as you brush the dog..gets alot more dead hair out than you normally would.
BUT..the vac is about $1,000 for a small unit and the attachment is $80. Really not practical for pet owners....it's great for groomers..I love it!

JRT's shed..it's normal. Plus the fact that he is older, he may be shedding a little more. I know my dog seemed to shed more when she got old. Just regular brushing ...try a zoom groom or a shedding blade. Also, bathing will help loosen all the dead hair up. Try brushing him out when he is all suds'd up.

Jack Russells do shed a lot. Dyson is a good vacuum for pet hair.

Animals molt periodically so that might be why the dog is losing hair. I don't know about vacumes, but I know you can get special brushes for getting lose hair out of your pets coat from most pet stores. For geting fur off of clothes and furniture, I recomend wraping a strip of sticky tape around your hand, sticky side out, and brushing your textiles with it. That might work on the dog too but it could hurt.

Shedding is normal- worse at seasonal times. I hook up an attachment to my vacum cleaner and mydogs love it! They will simplylay down and wait for their turn!

ALL dogs shed - this is very normal. They do sell vacuums for dogs.

Using your vacuum with an attachment will work just as well.
