People will use their kids in their protests and pull them out of school and everything else..but have no problem spending the money......with the word "God" on it...that's a littel hypocritical....why make your kids suffer all that attention (because you want the attention) then go and spend your "tainted" money however you please.....does this not make sense to anyone else here????

A friend gave me a copy of the US edition of Bill Bryson's 'Dictionary of Troublesome Words'. The author, who is a UK journalist goes on tediously and pedantically about words which are often confused (expect & anticipate, for example), and seems to be anally careful about getting things right. But he writes this, without apparently spotting it as an error -

'However, and as illogical as it may seem....'

This seems to be common US usage, but strikes me as a case of illiteracy arising from lack of familiarity with the language. It seems to me that 'as as' is the common idiom for constructing a simile or making a comparison - e.g. 'as clear as crystal'. While 'illogical as it may seem' is an example of a completely different idiom meaning 'although it may seem illogical'. In this case no comparison is intended, so the construction used for making comparisons is inappropriate. What do you think ? Would 'as illogical as it may seem' pass as correct idiom in the US ?

Hi

My wife is 8 months and 19 days into her pregnancy and she has been provided Sept 15th as the due date.

Every now and then she gets very uncomfortable and we decide to get a cesarean operation done to complete the delivery. She gets pain in the back and the doctor also says that the baby is in the perfect position for delivery and is very healthy.

Any suggestions? I am confused.

humans aren't able to go deep enough underwater because the weight will crush the machines or and will possibly lose reception if it's wireless.

there are many species down there that we have yet to discover. what if there are species down there that are as intelligent as us, with creativity and such. and to them, they cannot go up here to the surface because the weight of the water supports their body, or they die from oxygen up on earth. and they do not float so if they die, they stay down there, or if they die, their body will somehow decay and vanish before it reaches the surface.

anything is possible down there, what is down there? we do not know yet. but someday if we manage to get so deep down there, maybe there are species as smart as us. maybe they will look like us but with fins. maybe they will reach us before we reach them. who knows? maybe they've developed technology down there like atlantis technology. maybe theres magic down there. who knows.
