here, here. I wholeheartedly agree! Jesus said "make disciples." Disciples are ones who are teachable. These ones obviously are not and do not want any part of "the good news of the Christ."

Oh yes, there are idiots on *every* side of a question, especially on a semi-anonymous public forum.
Some people feel better just by "sounding off".

I rarely ask questions, but some Christian questions positively demand a reply from an atheistic viewpoint.
The Christian perspective should be sacrosanct? I differ.

And as for x*xDanielle-g-x*x's wonderful lack of reciprocity with :
"they should not try and change our beliefs"
Fine: let's ALL play by those rules. No evangelism?
Oh, that's not acceptable? Fine, we'll all put our opinions in the marketplace. That's just as good.

I thought you Christians were supposed to be tolerant. Oh well I guess you think bhuddism is some witch craft voodoo. Oh well all you christians you say I am holier then thou need to leave people who may not neccesarily have the same views. I mean you are upset about athiest asking questions, well what about you aren't you trying to get athiests in your face so that you can then taunt them and tell everyone how terrible they are and have an excuse to sa y that you are of the saved and they shall rot in hell well you know what I'm tired of these attitides modern Christians have (not all) I mean there are a rare few that I have ever met that aren't coming to bash on my door every saturday morning at eight o'clock to force their religion on me and my parents. Okay so what if you weren't ragging on everyone elses religion and you actually kept your beliefs to yourself. How about I come up with an Athiest badge on and bring some books about evolution and the big bang and tell you that everything in the Bible is a complet lie.

Absolutely correct. With a little bit of 'spiritual discernment', we can even see where scripture directly COMMANDS us not to bother with people such as atheists. Take 1 Corinthians, for example:

1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

1:23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

1:24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, that is very easy to interpret. Here we have a scam artist, trying to build an MLM organization, and trying to educate his victims on how to sort out the ideal types of NEW victims from those who will immediately see through the scam. He is essentially telling his potential recruits to focus their efforts on people who are as dumb or dumber than themselves... otherwise, they will just get laughed at. He is trying to convince them that stupidity and gullibility are virtues. It worked very well. It's a good thing, though, that these morons... er... scratch that... ahhh... recruits did not know anything about scripture... otherwise, bits like Ecclesiastes, Proverbs, etc. might have presented a bit of a problem... stuff like:

15:2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

3:35 The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.

2:14 The wise man's eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness.

No desire to know anything? Are you kidding me? Christians thrive on not knowing anything, you just like to "believe", have faith. All of the information that science has provided and you're still relying on a 2000 year old book full of contradictions and made up stories of physical impossibilities. Atheists have tried to know as much as possible. If there was any reason or evidence to believe in your fables then they would be believed. Unfortunately in our modern society evidence is required for belief.

Why don't you also address the "haggard, self-defeating, angry, offensive questions" from so called Christians aimed at atheists ? Be fair.
I also see a lot of questions along the lines of "why don't atheists believe in God" or "Atheists, do you know you are going to hell?". If Christians are getting insulting comments from Atheists it's because often they are provoking them.

It is a decent point you make, but I have mixed emotions.

God also commanded us to gently instruct and teach, lest He should give someone a change of heart and lead them to the truth.

What if God is using us and this forum as a way to touch the heart of an unbeliever, even one who posts an offensive question? That may be a sign of real desperation, masked bravado.

I think we should all use our best judgment here. But on balance, it is a very wise observation and astute counsel, brother!

Well, someone else finally figured it out. Just as we have the remote to watch what we want on TV, we have a mouse that we can use to answer those sincere questions that we want to answer. The trolls are thick on this particular page. Of course, the "Block User" feature is a great thing, too. It is hard, sometimes, not to admonish those that really say offensive things about Jesus, but we must realize that their souls are also in His hands. We need to just be us, and let God be God.

I should take your advice and not throw atheist pearls before fundie swine who refuse to think. I do not want what you have to offer since it is nothing more than faith - fantasy - from some where in your mind. Give me something to actually think intelligently about and I will.
