Alaska (49th state) was admitted to the Union on 1-3-59 and Hawaii (50th state) on 8-21-59. Was a new flag with 49 stars designed between the time Alasks joined the United States and Hawaii gained statehood? Or did we skip right from the flag with 48 stars to our present American flag with 50 stars?

I have moved back to NY after living in Florida for 15 years. When I got divorced I got a no-fault Florida Divorce. My ex-wife has had trouble handling my daughter, my daughter is 21 but since she has learning disabilities she is uncapable of making an important decision. My ex-wife half-hearteldly said that in the future in my daughters attittude didnt change she would think about putting her in a group home. This was very upsetting to me and I would like to know what rights as a father do I have in the state Of NY. I am pretty sure that my ex has total custody and is probably my daughters legal guardian. This was a mistalke that I made when I got dicvorce something that I have to live with. Does my ex-wife have to get my permission from me if she was to put my daughter in a group home. I have no problem if my daughter was to live with me. I would welcome this with open arms. I love my daughter more thananything in the world. any advice would really be appreciated. THANKS!!!

I cvan't get the background to stay in right..it keeps floating away and doesn't look right taped to the back. So I thought about contack paper in a pretty shade of green or blue because it would stick but I don't know if the chemicals will get in the water and kill my fish. I forget to breathe sometimes, its hard to breathe. Maybe because I wear my bra to sleep too, everyday? (But right now I'm only wearing a shirt, its still hard to breathe.)

My stomach always feels like I'm about to vomit but I never do - I also always feel light-headed and when I went to the doctor(quite a many times), they said nothing was wrong with me.

Maybe I'm lacking vitamins or nutrients, but I eat fruits everyday and take vitamins everyday.

I recently hired a friend and have been very disappointed with his performance. Mainly his issues are with basic professional ettiquete. For example, he disregards emails and phone calls, has poor follow up on tasks, poor task completion rates, uses online chat a lot, takes multiple personal phone calls during the day.

Typically I could overlook some of these issues if the person was more productive and responsive.

Unfortunately this individual needs to set an example, and he is, but not a good one.

I am usually a very direct person but I am so taken aback by the lack of professionalism that I am not sure where to start. This person is not 20 years old and should be much more professionally evolved.

I hired him based on his skill set not because he was a friend.

If this person wasn't a friend I would have no problems having this conversation, so I am looking for advice mainly on how to appropriately deal with an employee who is also a friend.

1)Is the adjective '' adamant'' a negative adjctive?Does it have any negative connotations?

2) Which verb phrase is more natural; ''make an apology'' or '' to apologize'' ''make a reservation'' or '' to reserve'' ''do the ironing'' or ''to iron''? Is there a degree of formality attached to these two different uses of the verbs?

3) The use of short form of verbs like ''dont'' and ''isnt'' is considered informal but great writers use them today in their serious books.Any ideas why?
