Preferrably good reasons and not just 'because' or "there's no proof of there being one" actually try and have a different answer

Those who don't want God demand proof knowing full well that won't happen.

But the answer is that you don't need proof in order to seek God; you only need to know that it is reasonable to do so. For those who want to know God, seeking Him is a very reasonable thing to do.

In the end, God will grant us what we really want; either to be with Him or to be apart from Him.

1) Because there is no universal agreement as to who or what god is. Too many people believe too many different things.

2) There is no tangible evidence that proves there is a god.

3) A being powerful and intelligent enough to create me, with my curious brain, should be able to offer me a more satisfying explanation for my being here than cryptic books written by primitive goat herders.

4) Too many of the various incarnations of god have been vengeful, angry, hateful entities.

5) The term "worship" is inherently demeaning to intelligent beings.

6) Mankind has systematically reduces the number of gods it has believed in over time, yet each culture has been absolutely certain they were right in there thinking. This argument has never changed, so if one was wrong, all are wrong.

7) There is too much contradictory evidence against the purported feats of the various gods. For example, Christianity claims the universe was created in 6000 years ago, while all scientific evidence states it was created 13.7 billion years ago.

8) God does not heal amputees.

9) No god has ever appeared to any generation capable of recording hard evidence of his existence (i.e. video, film, audio, etc.)

10) A god that punishes innocent beings for actions they did not commit (i.e. original sin) is inherently evil.

11) An omniscient being would already know everything that was, is and will be, therefore my free will would only be an illusion, and this would be unconscionable.

12) If god exists because all things need a creator, then there must be an explanation for who/what created god, which there isn't.

13) I have never once in my entire life felt the presence or heard the voice of god, despite being raised a strict, Christian.

14) There is no evidence to show that prayer works. Some scientific studies have proved that when sick people have been prayed for, they've gotten sicker.

I can go on, and on, and on, if you like?

I'm an Atheist but that's not to say i don't have any belief in a hereafter.

It's not so much that I don't believe in God as that the definition of God is so wildly wrong - an egotistical being who creates people just so he can have people to worship him? Not a great idea.

I don't like discussing what I believe exactly, because I know I'm right but it's excrutiating trying to get people to think logically about it. I absolutely believe in life after death, much more I think than most people who simply 'want' to believe.

If I were to sum up what I believe (and what I know) without going into details, I'd borrow a line from a computer game (yes I know, but it was such a cool game!): "What your heart desires will come to be".

I'm not kidding, I have an absolute conviction - backed up by some real facts - that everything happens for a reason and by my own choice and that everything I want will come to me eventually, no matter how impossible or fantastic it might seem.

I'm an Atheist, but I've got a lot more to look forward to than a follower of religion.

Some atheist are not raised believe, some choose not believe. Not all atheist don't like god, my friend believe that some really people don't like how people intercept it, that why don't believe in it. I believe she right. Some religious people sometime like focus to put there believe on other people, I know they mean well, but there at time when give this impression that better than non believer just cause they believe this particle god of their’s. But I guess vice versa for some religious people too when hear strong Atheist point of view. Anyway there times when leader abuse there power and hurt others who do not think the same way them, but that not true for all. I guess it like follow what this god (gods) want or really what this person assumes what god (gods) wants, there time people like sheep follow the shepherd, the no guarantee this shepherd will lead to good or bad direction. I guess like can’t rely or think for own, it like don’t have opinion, you just follow the crowd. My friends suggest god is truly guideline so people just like to be guide once will. To me, books like bible or Qur’een should followed more by moral than stories, since I think god is conscious that is in you. Why I consider atheist, is because I don’t go to church or temple since wasn’t raised in that way. Another thing is that so many religions and a lot interpretation so not only hard choose. I feel wrong for it, it seem I choose one over the others kinds of religions. It would seems I choose a side. (Sorry it long)

Here are a few (hopefully "good") reasons for you:

- The Western concept of God is based on the bible, which is a collection of stories and writings told by men, written by men, edited by men, collected by men, voted upon by men, and translated by men. They make claims of God that are far more likely to be inspired by human imagination rather than fact, such as "God has a gender" "God has human emotions" "God has wants/desires". Flaws in the bible are easy enough to research, so I won't go on about it.

- We realize its human nature to look for answers. If the answer cannot be found logically, the default is always the supernatural. Demons made people sick until we discovered germs. Witches brought bad weather until we discovered weather patterns. Notice anything we cannot explain logically (yet), the default answer is always "God did it."

- More of the point above, faith is an excuse not to investigate. Why find the real answer when you already have a belief? Why check to see if we evolved when you want to believe in creation? Why examine the reasoning behind certain events when you can just as easily claim your beliefs as fact? We find this to be a poor way of coming to conclusions.

- The concept of God provides answers to unanswerable questions, feeling of company, feeling of being loved, feeling of divine control, feeling of PERSONAL control (if I pray, this might happen), feeling of justice, feeling of hope, and a concept of life never-ending. These are all desireable feelings, none of which have any reasoning to support them.

- Even the concept of God offers several contradictions. If God is omnipitant, he knows the future...he knows every choice you will make. Therefore, your choices are pre-determined. Since you cannot prove God wrong, you cannot make a choice other than what he has forseen...therefore you have no free will, and therefore no responsibility for your actions (as they are all part of "God's Plan"). However, sin requires responsibility.

These are just a few reasons. The point is athiests/agnostics don't believe in God for the same reason you don't believe in Zeus...we see stories with no reason to take them seriously.

EDIT: Joseph G has kinda proven my point. Something cannot come from nothing? Must have been God! But the bible doesn't offer an origin of God...skip the logic on that one.

I'm not an atheist but i'm also not a believer.

Reason- belief is not knowing. It is the acceptance of anythting as though it is true, even if it is a lie. So one can believe in anything and be 100% wrong.

Knowledge is the first step in coming closer to reality or the truth on a matter. It can be checked out and will stand to any test put to it. It is aquired thru evidence, experience or reasoning where as belief is mostly opinionated and based on emotional or personal feelings.

I know who & what god is based on the facts that indicates it as such but to accept without truly knowing is an insult to anyones intelligence.

I'm very curious as to why you DO believe. I don't believe in God the way christians believe in god. The bible is a joke. It is full of inaccuracies, contradictions, and illogical scenarios.

The idea of a grandfatherly man sitting in the clouds watching my every move is childish to me. Its like santa for adults.

If there is a God, it is god only in the sense that it started everything, a supreme power than allowed everything to exist. God is the string theory, or whatever holds everything together. It is the unifying element that ties it all up. Why do we have gravity? Why is it just exactly as strong as it is?

God has always been used to describe what we don't know through science. The norse believed that Thor controlled thunder. We now know exactly what causes thunder. The greeks believed that poseiden caused ships to sink, we now know that that isnt true either.

Yet some still believe that humans were created directly from god, "in his image".

Religion is a hindrance to Science.

The bible says that disobedient children should be stoned to death. The bible says that the world is flat and unmoving.

Just look at the Bible, so many flaws.

If stories in the Bible of visions of God and Jesus happened today they would be told they were schizophrenic.

You believe in something that was 2000 years old when people also believed in Rah and a Sun god and tree gods. They also believed the Earth was the center of the universe. Which it is not. The universe is vast.

There are countless contradictions in the Bible and shouldnt the entire Bible be true if it is the inspired word of god?
If it says you can drink poison shouldnt that be taken literally just like the ten commandments should be taken litteraly?

It seems to me believers only like to follow the easy commandments in there books like love thy neighbor and dont steal but not follow kill witches and kill homosexuals.

Maybe because it is often nothing more than an excuse, because religion has set off major atrocities in this world, because decides that I can't come to my own conclusions, that I don't have the self-control, intelligence, or ability to tell the difference between good and bad...
I simply don't care to be insulted, and any religion is insulting.
And I can't find anything in religion to believe.

Let's say I live with you. One day you come home to find one of your prized objects has been smashed beyond all repair. Dispite the fact that I was the only one who could have done it, I insist that I hadn't. I insist that a pink gremlin appeared out of thin air, smashed your possession, and threatened to do worse if you didn't believe in him. After issuing the threat, the gremlin disappeared. You have no proof of my story, and it sounds outlandish to you--well beyond all logic; in fact, it's ridiculas! So why don't you believe me, again?

Answer this, and you'll be standing in my shoes.

I don't understand what you mean. Am I missing something here? Why do you need something more than that we have "no proof of there being one"?

Do you speak english? Perhaps we could find someone to translate for you.
Otherwise, the words seem clear to me. Simple words. Concise. They appear to convey the meaning we intend.

Perhaps you're simply angry with us because we leave you with nothing to argue about?

Get over it.
