I just wanted to take a quick moment to send out best wishes and prayers to our white soldiers who are sacrificing right now in Iraq.

This is a tough time for them and their families, and I would appreciate if you could just spare a moment of your time to let these white families know they are in our thoughts and prayers during this time of need.

Amen

Amen

I was wondering if there is a setting that can be done on the computer that can make the copier pick up everything. Or do I have to take the copier (Hewlett Packard Deskjet 610CL) in for repair. I'm hoping that it is an adjustment that can be made to allow the copier to pick up (all) of what I am printing.

Was there one potential encounter in particular that you let slip away out of faithfulness to your spouse?

Mine was Igor, an affectionate, hazel-eyed Slav who worked at the local pizza joint who returned with his family to Europe after the collapse of Communism to try to rebuild their country. I wanted so badly to give him a parting send-off worthy of his youthful idealism, but those pesky wedding vows got in the way.

Any other stories of sacrifice for the sake of honor out there?

Sophocles’ play “Oedipus Tyrannus” has been described as the most powerful and terrifying critique of the pursuit of true knowledge ever penned. So long as Oedipus has a false understanding of his origins and circumstances he is highly successful. It is by learning the truth of his origins that he is destroyed.

Is it possible that the pursuit of true knowledge is dangerous? That a false understanding (religion) is better than a true understanding (science)?

Yesterday, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) told CNN that that President Bush’s escalation in Iraq is going so well, “General Petraeus goes out there almost every day in an unarmed humvee.” On Monday, he told radio host Bill Bennett that there “are neighborhoods in Baghdad where you and I could walk through those neighborhoods, today.”

This morning, during an interview with McCain, CNN’s John Roberts rebutted McCain’s assertions, stating, “I checked with General Petraeus’s people overnight and they said he never goes out in anything less than an up-armored humvee.” He added that a new report by retired Gen. Barry McCaffrey “said no Iraqi government official, coalition soldier, diplomat reporter could walk the streets of Baghdad without heavily armed protection.”

Faced with overwhelming evidence that he was wrong, McCain denied he’d ever said it: “Well, I’m not saying they could go without protection. The President goes around America with protection. So, certainly I didn’t say that.”

ARPANET was the original backbone for what we now refer to broadly as "The Internet." The backbone was constructed to allow for decentralized military operations - ie. if one city or base was bombed, another base would still have control of critical weapons and defenses. Today, the Internet has become more of a communications medium than a military network. While the Internet was designed with the intention of security and safety from military attack, the Internet presents new security threats. What risks do we take when accessing the Internet? What types of technological "attacks" can occur? Has the advent of the Internet made as safer or more vulnerable as a nation? Why?
