Too often, it seems like people tend to think that anything written in a formal academic style is "good writing" and everything written for the masses is "bad writing"

To me, it seems like there are many problems with this argument. For example, there are many very good authors such as Greg Bear, Tad Williams, and Card (for example) who tackle complex issues and also write in an accessible manner.

Another problem I have, is the question of the author's perspective. Do you really think that most of the authors who are currently studied by academics were writing to be studied by academics? Weren't most of these books published to be read by the masses?

I will not dispute that there is a lot of scubolos on those bookstore shelves these days, but can we really dismiss all of it simply because it wasn't written with academics in mind?

Governments make huge profits from the sale of cigarettes which have caused more deaths in this country than any other disease. Even the packets now tell you that smoking is a health hazard and our hospitals are full of people suffering from the effects of smoking, such as heart disease, thrombosis, emphysema etc. I wrote to our PM but no reply. More people should sue the manufacturers and or governments for allowing it to happen. My dad would be alive today if he had never smoked.

once it warms up i give it gas and it shuts off then when i start it back up it just cranks and wont turn back on until it gets cold. i'm not sure what it is i replaced the map sensor today but that wasnt it cuz i got no changes. so if any1 could help me out that would be great its a 1984 pontiac fiero se 4 cylinder 2.5L thanx o i also have new wires new spark plugs and a new cap n rotar so........yeah get at me some1

hey i am 19 and all of a sudden i don't feel like eating.....why could this be......i feel a bit sick after i eat....but other than not wanting to eat i am fine...no headaches not tired...i feel better than normal...except for when i just wake up or just go to bed......that when i feel a bit queasy in the stomach.....will this go away.........im not loosing weight either i have stayed normal.

Go to cnn.com right now, and the headline is Iran President saying "Israel to be wiped off" in bold letters. As if saying he is saying the entire country will be destroyed and all dead. But he said the Israel regime, just like the soviet one. Russia is still standing, and all in the soviet weren't killed. The organization is gone. Whatever Iran presidents intentions are, his statement he was clearly saying Israels government/ way of doing things will be history soon. Anybody else notice how so much is twisted or exaggerated. I refuse to be influenced and told what to think by the press, its obvious they try to brainwash everyone on what to think. This is for everything, not just this one issue.
