LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan (Reuters) - A suicide bomb killed 18 people outside the governor's office in the southern Afghan province of Helmand on Tuesday, provincial officials said.
The bomb went off as foreign troops were passing in the provincial capital, Lashkar Gah, an official said. NATO troops were in the area at the time but none was hurt, an alliance spokesman said.
"It was a suicide attack on a road in front of the governor's office," police official Mohammad Ayoub said in Lashkar Gah.
"There are six police and army deaths and the other 12 people are civilians," said provincial government spokesman Mahaiuddin.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
A suicide blast in a crowded market in the same town killed 17 people on August 28.
