I never had any problems adding or upgrading from a cd drive to a dvd drive. But I have been running win2000 and XP. The DVD drive uses the same drivers as the cd drive and I never had to find newer drivers. Now the software would have to be changed to use to burn DVDs. Turn off your PC change out the RAM if it is compatible then turn your PC on. If the PC starts to beep then most likely the RAM is not compatible. If it is okay turn off you PC again and add the DVD drive, it will not hurt the computer at all even if it does not work.

You can jack the RAM sticks(memory) from one and stick it in the other, as long as they're compatible, but sticking a new drive into a computer requires drivers, and to get those drivers you would either have to download them from the manufacturer's website or get them from the original CD/DVD/Floppy Disk that came with the drive.

sounds like you have one pc, and one server... but to answer your question.

for the ram:...as long as it is the same type, then yes, but make sure that you upgrade in pairs on older ram... if you don't it will sometimes freak the computer out..

The dvd, I am not sure on software, because some require drivers for the dvd functions that win98 may not have, however, then cd-rom function should work, no problem.
