Big city in the continental US would have to be Portland, ME

Generally speaking there are pretty much crime free cities in every state..You want to find more affluent neighborhoods that have mostly white inhabitants...for example in So Cal there are a few La Jolla Del Mar Rancho Santa Fe in San Diego then Irvine, Laguna Beach Newport Beach Villa Park in Orange county Rancho Palo Verde Brentwood Topanga Canyon in Los Angeles
these are just a few such safe "towns/cities or neighborhoods"
Also very rural towns are mostly crime free but if you chose to live there then you'd have to live there...

Maine has a ton of gorgeous cities as well as a low crime rate.

Funny you should ask, it is said to be Virginia Beach but VB is top on the list too for what I just looked up for my grand daughter-lowest VIOLENT crimes. That is at:

after that it is San Jose and then Colorado Springs followed by Austin and the list goes on and on.
