She is Eskimo/border colly mis, 14 years old, has had cataracts, complete in one eye, well over 50% in the other, has had them for years, and has adapted well. NOW she has gone completely deaf, and spends much of her time lost in the house, will get distressed and just stand and bark until we go up and touch her.
She is amazingly healthy other than this. She knows her yard and gets exercise, eats well, her coat is lovely and stays well groomed with minimum of input from us.
For anyone whose dog has had cataract surgery, do you think that would help her at this point? It looks like she will live quite a bit longer, and would be willing to do this if it would enhance her life.
We love her lots, and it breaks my heart to see her get so "lost" in the house. She has a companion dog, a Jack Russell, almost the same age, and this one's disability has resulted in a little intimidation and bullying behavior from the other one.
