I think his mom is trying to keep him from the pot, and doesn't really know how else to do this. She's just being a mom.
I wouldn't stop someone from doing a bad thing. I'd advise them to do different, but the decision is in his own hands. And the consequences too.
If he were my son, I'd definitely talk, beg and a whole lot more, so he'd realize that pot isn't the way to go.

LET IT BE, LET IT BE, There only is one answer. Or smoke with him. Now don't get all judgemental, but I had a similar problem with an x-girlfriend of mine. She was totaly against weed, but after 3 long hard months, we were smokin together and laughing instead of fighting, she liked it. She even found out shortly after that her(like best friends) Mom was a smoker too. You know many times it's the stubboren and unaccepting who create the worst problems.

What mom is doing is mom's job to raise her son the best she can and to stop him from doing stupid things. Has mom known for the last 4 years or did she just recently find out. I would guess that she just found out and wants her sonn to have a better life than the drug scene. Go MOM put your foot down and show your son the ils of his ways. I will pray for you be strong.

Trying to prevent one's son from ending up in jail has little to do with christian faith. It's just good parenting.

Geneally speaking, one gets punished for breaking the law, not for "sinning". If sinning was the only criterion, everyone would have a police record. I must admit though, that the christian population in the USA these days would love to see OTHER people incarcerated for sinning, just not themselves.

the parents of any minor children have a duty to rear the child in the ways of the laws rules and mores of the Culture and Society in which they live. when the child is not of legal age the child is still required to listen and obey the parents. when the child becomes an adult then they are still required to obey the laws rules and mores of the Culture and Society. when adulthood is reached the person faces more severe punishment for the same offense because they are adults.

It depends on the situation. As a parent his mom is legally responsible for anything distructive he does to his body, mind, or any property around him. And is very valid for trying to get him to stop smoking weed, it is illegal. But once he is 18 and if he decides to live on his own, she is no longer legally responsible, but if he moved out and I knew he was smoking pot I would call the cops on him. In the end no one can really make him quite but himself.

I think his Mom is probably worried because let's face it ...pot is illegal and I'm sure she doesn't want to see her son go to jail for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't think it's a sin for her to take care of her son and do what she feels is best for his safety. That's a Mother's responsibility.

That is probably the silliest thing. Of course his mom has the right to tell him to stop. As long as he lives in HER house, he has to live by HER rules. Even if he is 18 years old, she pays the bills, feeds him.... HER rules apply.
He'll be 18 soon, he can move out and do what he wants.

If he wants to do pot he will do it.,
He has to want to stop.
Smoking pot is illegal but I don't think it is a sin in your terms
Smoking is harmful to your health which maybe a sin in your terms
you have to believe in the concept of sin. I only believe in right and wrong. Wrong is when you or someone else gets harmed by your wilful actions

I only stopped smoking when I wanted to stop, no one else could make me do it

Listen, you can't really do anything to stop this. The real question is whether or not you are a Christian, because if you are you would find a Christian boyfriend, or better yet wait untill the time is right.

God bless!!
