I have a cat that doesn't listen to me when I call him, he doesn't get off the counter when I tell him no, and he kind of just does his own thing. Our dogs recognize human tone - they know when I am mad at them, they know that when they throw up on the carpet that they are in trouble and have to go outside. They hunker down and look like their sorry. The cat, on the other hand, chases flashlights, and looks the other way when you call him. So, are cats independent, or do they suffer a much less capable brain?
