Here the break down:

Pros:

Ford - Oldest, safest(highest crash test rating), reliable, highest towing rating
Chevy - like a rock?, large engines
Dodge - aesthetically pleasing, huge engines
Toyota - High resale value, reliable

Cons:

Ford - transmission issues
Chevy - verge of bankrupt, maintenance issues
Dodge - maintenance issues, cylinder heads no longer hemispherical
Toyota - over priced

ALL HAVE HORRIBLE GAS MILEAGE

If you're going to go full sized - F-150 hands down... compact - Toyota Tacoma no questions asked. Two great trucks for the money; both with extremely appealing aspects.

They are all great trucks. Driving TV did a showdown on DODGE CHEVY and FORD. They were all very capable but all around the DODGE quad cab with the hemi rated the highest. Then FORD for styling and finally CHEVY fuel economy and towing capacity. They Chevy would have rated higher but the styling was "dated". The Nissan probably blows them all away on fuel economy, but lacks in space. The Honda is an all around great truck but very pricey.
Good hunting.

Dodges look the best, Chevy are most solid. If you plan on keeping it less than 5 years, I would get a Ram. They are pretty hot. I have a Silverado however I plan on keeping it a long long time.

You need to realize that "Chevy" people will answer "Chevy"
"ford"."ford",
and so on and so forth. You will find it hard to find an objective car buff who doesn't always vote for their favorite.
*Good Luck
