I'm travelling to New York City in the Spring and I'll be staying for 3 weeks. I need good value accommodation for my time there and will not consider a hostel - I'm too old for that! :) Also, hotels are coming in at $3k-5k which is way too expensive. Apart from vacation rentals what other options should I also be looking at? Please add weblinks where possible. I don't want to book my ticket without sorting out my accomodation 1st!

Although I won't be visiting New York for the first time until next spring, I love the city of New York. I'm a follower of the phrase, "The greatest city in the world". However, I continue to hear bad stories from travelers who've visited the city even when I'm not looking for it. I know no place is perfect, but I have to wonder, am I going to be disappointed to experience that my favorite city is so fast that it's arrogant?

I am going to New York City in June and would like a moderately priced hotel to stay in Manhattan. Any suggestions? Also, I plan on going from June 6-12 and I have noticed that some hotels are completely booked. Any ideas on what is happening at this time?

I`m obviously not asking this so that I can move there, but I want to write a screenplay. Please tell me everything you know about the area that you say. (crimes, people, stores, wealth, schools, entertainment, most families, ect.) Tell me anything you can.

Thank you.

P.s. If you can`t its not a problem, but please put a source down so I know that you`re not just making it up in your head (I had somebody do that on another question).

I'm planning a trip to New York for August 2007. (Yeah I plan in advance) but I was looking into hotel options. I'm looking to stay in a decently priced hotel in Midtown Manhatten. My big question is do most of the hotels in Manhatten require an age of 21-years old in order to check in? I'll be 19 when I travel there, with my 20-year-old friend. I desperatley want to go there next summer but I'm afraid I won't find a good hotel, due to the fact that I'm not 21. What do you suggest?

My friend recently visited New York, and I have a few questions about the subway.

1) is it like dangerous to use the subway in terms of crime etc? my friend says it isn't but there are misconceptions sometimes.
2) do all teh different types of train run on all lines, or is it a specific line for each train, like London (e.g. the northern line will only have one type of train on it, and not like trains used on other lines)?
3)is there any control of trains on the subway? My friend said how there have been many accidents on the subway over the years, and he proved it to me by googling it. he found http://www.nycsubway.org/cars/currentfleet.html which shows all the different types of trains on the subway, and when you click on each type of train you will see a few accidents. look at it and you will get what I mean. Is there like no prevention thing, like signalling things that would stop the train, i have no idea what they would be called, because there seem to be a lot of collisions
