Yes i was going to suggest craigslist too, but there are also a number of "long stay" hotels that might work for you, because for private rentals, a week OR MORE is a minimum. So here are the extended stay hotels:

The best place is to check the internet, Try to find a realiable site, and most important before you pay anymoney find out if the site is realiabe and find your self a solution in case the aptment is really bad, I might be best to call a local real estate office.

Try the NYC version of craigslist.com This has many apartment listings on it with rental information. You can also restrict your searches to particular times, areas, rent payments, etc.
