I'm planning a trip to New York for August 2007. (Yeah I plan in advance) but I was looking into hotel options. I'm looking to stay in a decently priced hotel in Midtown Manhatten. My big question is do most of the hotels in Manhatten require an age of 21-years old in order to check in? I'll be 19 when I travel there, with my 20-year-old friend. I desperatley want to go there next summer but I'm afraid I won't find a good hotel, due to the fact that I'm not 21. What do you suggest?

they usually want someone 21 or older just for responsibility issues, like if you were to trash the place, then they would want to be paid, your best bet is having a parent or friend book it,and then pay whomever books it. have an awesome trip, I hear NY is great

I definitely stayed in hotels before I was 21. I found renting cars difficult, but not staying in hotels. You will need an ID and a credit card - that's about it. Just to make sure, I would go to something like www.marriott.com or www.hilton.com and find the "contact us" section and ask.

I suggest a hostel. check out www.hostelworld.com to find a hostel to stay in. Because you do have to be 21 to get into a hotel. But check with the hotel to see if your parents can book a hotel for you.

i agree with howardlee check the hostels ....you may have to share a bathroom but they are more accomodating to a younger crowd and offer great tips too. They run less inexpensive then the bigger hotels and you are not in your room anyway so whats the difference? always call and ask most have toll free numbers

i suggest you call the hotel and the receptionist will tell you. in general, 21 is the age... but some hotels do not care since you are close to that age anyway.... call them and ask!! that's what i do!

call the hotel before you book and find out their policy. I beleive all you need is a major credit card..

i have never had a problem. most hotels are concerned more about spring brek time and large parties. but while you are planning just check.
