Start checking out hotel websites. Price line is my favorite. you can set your own price, area and star level and usually save right around 50 percent on a hotel. I use it for every hotel booking now. And I have always been happy. Just be aware of the area of the city you want to be in ...how much sleep you want and always search the web sites of the hotels before naming a price.
I travel alot and I have paid 60 to 75 dollars for 3 and 4 star hotels all over the place. Good luck. Make sure you research thoroughly.
It seems there is always something going on in NYC. Also consider staying in a hotel just outside of the city. Getting around is quite easy and you don't need a car. Subways and buses constantly going to NYC. As well as cabs and limo services.
Check into all of them before choosing. The research you do now will be nothing but beneficial for you in your travels.
Have fun! Another Great American city!

There are a lot of seniors graduating from high school that go during that time on their senior trips. Its a busy time and get ready for some heavy duty humidity, sticky and hot. I would definitely stay in Upper Manhanttan. Don't stay anywhere near the hustle and bustle, like Times Square, we made that mistake and regretted it because there is no down time. Also, I recommend buying a week pass for the subway, its the cheapest way to go to travel anywhere and its easy to get around. Stick to taxis for night time travel. Hotels I recommend Broadway, Hilton, Windsor....check orbitz for Upper Manhattan hotels, they have really accurate ratings and reasonable prices.

Hotel Belleclaire is nice. I would go for the slightly higher priced room that has its own bathroom. You can, if you are trying to save money, get one that shares a bathroom, but I really didn't like that. Try the link. Enjoy NYC
