I was there in '96 (maybe '95?). When we got to Time's Square at about 7:00 it was like 30 some degrees. The police herded us into these barricaded pens that they have set up on each block. We started out about two blocks away on Broadway. About 8:00 my girlfriend at the time had to...ahem...use the facilities. So we got out of the pen and visited about a dozen different restaurants trying to find a bathroom (we were even willing to pay or buy something.) After some time the Police only allow the pedestrian traffic to move away from Time's Square. So our new pen was now about four blocks away. By 10 the temperature had dropped to about 5 degrees. At 11 when my girlfriend started crying that she couldn't feel her legs anymore we left.

We rang in the New Year on the Long Island Railroad sitting next to an old guy who said he wanted to tell us about his time in "the war," and proceeded to quote the movie "Top Gun," word for word. "My partner wuz this funny lookin' guy we called Goose."

Cheers!

Yes, as I lived there but now I can`t really understand people gathering around Times Square on New Year`s Eve.
